Malaysia: PM Anwar Says Government and Central Bank Will Hold Separate Meetings on Security Threats

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · World · GSM News

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told parliament on November 3 that the chief secretary to the government and the governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, the central bank, will hold separate meetings with government departments and financial institutions to prepare the country against security threats.

Anwar said the move responds to recent international developments: after cyberattacks hit digital infrastructure across Europe and the Western world, including administrative systems, the European Union, Canada and Japan issued directives and advice to their citizens, including stockpiling food.

"We are still monitoring other developments. They involve the tensions in the Middle East, developments in Yemen and the Red Sea, and security threats occurring in Europe. These show that crises abroad can also affect the safety of our people, our economic stability and our national interests," he said in a speech to parliament.

Anwar added that Malaysia's National Security Council has met to discuss currently available mechanisms, coordination between ministries, agencies and security forces, and the country's preparedness for any eventuality.
