Hong Kong, China Team Wins Four Golds in a Day to Reach a Record 54 Asian Games Medals; Coleman Wong Takes Historic Tennis Title

NAGOYA — The Hong Kong, China delegation enjoyed its best day yet at the 20th Asian Games on October 3, winning four gold, two silver and two bronze medals to lift its total to a record 54 medals. Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Rosanna Law congratulated the athletes on the best results in Hong Kong's Asian Games history.
The four golds came from three sports: the men's rugby sevens team won its final without conceding a single point to complete a third consecutive Asian Games title; tennis player Coleman Wong won the men's singles; and windsurfers Wong Tsz-ho and Cheung Tsz-yuet took the men's and girls' iQFOil titles respectively (both youth classes as listed by the government release). Silver medals went to sailor Huang Zixi in the girls' ILCA4 dinghy and windsurfer Ma Kwan-ching in the women's iQFOil, while the women's rugby sevens team and sailor Cheng de Villemor Salgado Tiago (boys' ILCA4) claimed bronze.
Miss Law noted that with the total reaching 54 medals, including 11 golds, the team has broken all previous records. She praised the men's rugby sevens side for a flawless final and a third straight championship, and the women's team for winning bronze at two consecutive Games. The tennis gold, she said, was a milestone of great significance: it is Hong Kong, China's first Asian Games men's singles tennis title, and it also earned Coleman Wong qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The sailing squad was the day's other standout. All four young sailors and windsurfers competing that day won medals, and together with Ma Kwan-ching's silver the sailing team collected ten medals at these Games — four gold, four silver and two bronze — its best-ever Asian Games performance.
The Games are being held in the Aichi–Nagoya region of Japan. A haul of 54 medals with 11 golds surpasses Hong Kong's previous best totals and sets a new benchmark for the city's elite sport system as the Games draw towards their close.
