Security Chief Inspects Front-Line National Day Deployment as Police Add Drone Patrols for Holiday Crowds

MACAO — With Golden Week crowds at their peak, Secretary for Security Chan Tsz King inspected front-line operations on October 3, reviewing border crossings, order at tourist hotspots and traffic management, and directed security services to carry through the National Day security plan in full, broadcaster TDM reported that evening. Chan had issued instructions on the holiday deployment on October 1 and, on October 2, visited community associations with Secretary for Economy and Finance Antonia Wu to gather views ahead of the policy address.
The Public Security Police later summarised the operation: officers were redeployed in advance to front-line checkpoint posts, with extra personnel at crowded areas, tourist hotspots and transport hubs, and crowd and traffic guidance around festival venues. Total border movements from October 1 to 7 reached about 5.245 million, a daily average of roughly 749,000, up 8.3 percent year on year. The Border Gate handled a daily average of about 377,000 movements and the Hengqin checkpoint about 134,000.
New tools were used for major-event policing. During the international fireworks displays on October 1 and 4 and drone shows on October 1 and 6, police added officers at viewing points and deployed police drones over the Sai Van Bridge, combining aerial monitoring with ground alerts to watch bridge traffic in real time and overcome the limits of ground-level visibility.
Enforcement continued in parallel. Over the seven days, police prosecuted one taxi violation involving an obvious detour and six unlicensed hire-car cases, and referred five complaints about driver discourtesy to the Transport Bureau. Police concluded that crossings ran smoothly and that public order and traffic across the city remained good throughout the holiday.
