ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — Hundreds of dogs and their humans took over the meadows of Dog Mountain on Oct. 3 for the annual Fall Dog Party, a beloved tradition for dog lovers across New England, the Burlington Free Press reported.

Founded by the late artist Stephen Huneck, the 150-acre Dog Mountain is home to the one-of-a-kind Dog Chapel, its walls covered with tributes to departed canine companions. The mountaintop sanctuary hosts dog parties each spring and fall, drawing visitors — and their four-legged friends — from across the region.

This year's fall edition featured dogs romping across the fields, agility demonstrations and costume contests. Many owners arrived with multiple dogs in tow, turning the hillside into a full-scale canine carnival. Organizers said proceeds support the upkeep of Dog Mountain, keeping the dog-lover's paradise open for years to come.

Huneck once said dogs are humanity's most loyal friends, and Dog Mountain was built to honor that bond. The twice-yearly parties carry on his legacy — and celebrate the deep affection between people and their dogs.
