Pumpkin Head Illusion Takes Over Halloween Month on TikTok

Sunday, October 4, 2026 · Society · GSM News

According to New Engen's October TikTok trends roundup, a photo trick called the Pumpkin Head Illusion spread quickly in the first week of Halloween month. A creator holds a pumpkin up close to the lens so perspective makes it look like a fake head sitting on their neck, then completes the clip with a groovy spooky remix soundtrack — a gag that is equal parts silly and seasonal.

The roundup placed the trick alongside the month's other leading Halloween formats, the Ramalama Costume Walk and wedding edits set to Taylor Swift's new single, as the core of early-October TikTok. Its prop could hardly be simpler: with supermarkets and pumpkin patches in peak season, a single pumpkin is all it takes to film, and everyone from families to home and beauty accounts joined in, with spin-offs used for fall decorating and cozy-routine videos.

A safety note: holding a pumpkin against the lens blocks the view, so creators filming outdoors or on steps should watch their footing, and anyone filming children or other people should get consent first.
