Portugal Beat Norway 2-1 in Porto to Seal Nations League Quarter-Final Place

PORTO — Holders Portugal maintained their 100 percent record in the Nations League with a 2-1 home win over Norway on Sunday, October 4, sealing a place in the March quarter-finals, Reuters reported. The win moved Portugal six points ahead of second-placed Denmark and guaranteed a top-two finish in Group A4.
Norway struck first when centre-back Kristoffer Ajer hit a dipping half-volley from the edge of the box in the 36th minute. Two minutes later João Cancelo lashed in an even more emphatic equaliser. The winner came 11 minutes from time, Gonçalo Ramos turning the ball in off his calf after João Félix had headed across goal.
The victory was soured by a red card for Francisco Conceição four minutes from time; after receiving a yellow card he gave the referee a sarcastic thumbs-up and was sent off. In the group's other match, Denmark won 1-0 at Wales through a 75th-minute Rasmus Højlund penalty.
Portugal had also won in Norway in late September and beaten Denmark 4-2 in Copenhagen on October 1. Four wins from four, with 12 points, leave the holders in control of the group ahead of the final two rounds in November.
