San Diego County Launches Consumer Protection Unit With Child-Safety and Ghost-Gun Lawsuits

San Diego County announced a new Consumer Protection Unit on Monday along with its first three major lawsuits: two targeting online platforms accused of using technology that allows predators to reach children with sexually explicit material, and one against a manufacturer accused of supplying materials for ghost guns.
Board Chair Terra Lawson-Remer was joined by county counsel officials at the County Administration Center to launch the unit. For parents, the cases raise practical questions about how platforms identify minors, handle sexual-exploitation content, and support schools and families. The ghost-gun case focuses on the supply chain for unserialized gun parts and materials.
Traffic note: Caltrans will close all southbound Interstate 5 lanes at the Via de San Ysidro off-ramp Monday night, Oct. 5, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., for overhead sign installation; the Willow Road pedestrian bridge will also be closed. Southbound drivers can exit at Via de San Ysidro, turn onto E San Ysidro Blvd., and use the southbound I-805 on-ramp. (Sources: San Diego County release, Business Wire, and Caltrans.)
