HONG KONG — The Innovation, Technology & Industry Bureau announced on October 5 the inaugural list of "New Industrialisation Elite Enterprises", naming eight enterprises under its nurturing scheme. The bureau said the New Industrialisation Elite Enterprises Nurturing Scheme echoes the direction set out in Hong Kong's First Five-Year Plan and the 2026 Policy Address to accelerate the development of a new industrialisation system.

The scheme aims to nurture leading enterprises in emerging and future industries for Hong Kong, and is an important initiative in advancing the integrated development of education, technology, talent and industry. Secretary for Innovation, Technology & Industry Prof Sun Dong said the scheme focuses on supporting and nurturing a group of high-growth enterprises developing in Hong Kong. Through it, the Government hopes to enhance the market recognition and visibility of the "Made in Hong Kong" enterprise brand and support the selected companies' future development.

The scheme received over 100 nominations. The nominated enterprises span life and health technology; super intelligence and robotics; semiconductors and smart devices; digitalisation, upgrading and transformation; and future and sustainable development, as well as companies from industries with traditional strengths that are leveraging innovation and technology to upgrade and transform.

Assessment was based on three core criteria: the enterprises' research and development capabilities, growth potential, and local contribution and ecosystem impact. The selected enterprises receive the honorary title of "New Industrialisation Elite Enterprise", with an award presentation ceremony expected before the end of this year.

New industrialisation is a central plank of the Government's industry policy, centred on the Northern Metropolis and the Hetao Shenzhen–Hong Kong innovation zone, and aimed at building an advanced-manufacturing backbone linked to the city's innovation ecosystem. The first elite list moves the scheme from nomination to active nurturing, and the eight firms' progress will be watched as a barometer of Hong Kong's industrial upgrade.
