Electrolux Cuts Planned Italy Job Losses to About 1,250, With No Compulsory Redundancies

Monday, October 5, 2026 · World News · GSM News

Appliance maker Electrolux presented a scaled-down restructuring plan for Italy on October 5 after talks in Rome with unions and the government, reducing planned job cuts to about 1,250 — 650 blue-collar and 600 white-collar roles — from as many as 1,700 initially envisaged, unions and Industry Minister Adolfo Urso said.

The company is prepared to manage the reduction through furlough schemes and voluntary exit programmes over three years rather than compulsory redundancies, unions said. It is also open to seeking a buyer for its kitchen hood plant in Cerreto d'Esi in central Italy, initially earmarked for closure, while keeping production running until a potential sale.

Urso said a new phase was beginning and called the outcome a step in the right direction. Gianluca Ficco of the UILM union said unions welcomed the revised approach but awaited a detailed plan, including incentives under the voluntary programme.

Electrolux declined to comment. Italian manufacturing faces high energy costs and soft demand, making employment terms a focus of talks between the government and unions.
