Hanoi Backs 303.5 km Metro Programme in October 5 Resolution Targeting Operation in 2030

Monday, October 5, 2026 · World News · GSM News

Hanoi's Party committee adopted Resolution No. 30 on October 5 backing special procedures, including turnkey contracts and advance payments, for the city's metro programme. Five lines — Lines 1, 2, 8, 10 and 14 — totalling 303.5 kilometres are targeted for completion and operation in 2030.

The five lines broke ground simultaneously on June 22, 2026, after Hanoi approved its capital master plan in May. Special legal mechanisms allow land clearance to be separated into independent projects, and preparation time has reportedly been cut by at least half, though faster preparation does not by itself shorten construction, testing and safety approval.

The comparison is Hanoi's first metro line, Cat Linh–Ha Dong, which took more than a decade to finish. Building five lines in roughly four years shows both the city's determination and the risk embedded in the timetable.

Hanoi's longer blueprint aims for about 500 kilometres of urban railway by 2035 and the full planned 979-kilometre network by 2045. For Chinese families and merchants in Hanoi, the expanding metro map will redraw commuting, renting and shop-location decisions, with land clearance and construction disruption arriving before the convenience.
