Riverside County Supervisors Approve $51.5M Budget Cleanup; Sheriff Gets Extra $8.5M

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday considered $51.58 million in appropriations to settle lingering financial obligations from the previous fiscal year. Per the Executive Office, the "cleanup" action provides budget authority to record June invoices and other 2025-26 obligations not identifiable when the fiscal year closed.
The draw-down spans General Fund accounts and agencies' internal budgets, covering indigent defense contracts, Emergency Management obligations, Registrar of Voters operations and IT projects.
On June 23 the board adopted a $10.36 billion budget for FY 2026-27. CEO Jeff Van Wagenen stressed the hiring freeze continues alongside targeted cuts to curb deficit spending. Earlier hearings added $8.5M for the Sheriff's Department and $679,000 for the DA's office. (Via MyNewsLA)
