Poway Formally Bans Large Third-Party SI Data Centers

Poway is a city in San Diego County, California. The Poway City Council has formally adopted an ordinance banning large third-party super intelligence data centers from locating in the city. The council had earlier passed the ordinance unanimously, citing such facilities' significant water and electricity use and the resulting strain on infrastructure, potential effects on utility rates, and air quality, noise and fire risks. The city said the move is a land use decision, intended to preserve limited commercial land for businesses that bring sustained employment and economic growth. The ordinance takes effect 30 days after adoption.
