Newsom Announces 35 Films Coming to California, $1.08B in Production Spending Expected

Governor Gavin Newsom's office announced on October 7 that the California Film Commission has awarded tax credits to 35 films in its latest round, including 28 independent films and major studio projects such as "Michael 2" and Ice Cube's "Last Friday."
The productions are expected to generate about $1.08 billion in California spending and employ nearly 30,000 cast, crew and background performers. Newsom said expanding the film and TV tax credit, launching a new post-production credit and protecting performers in the age of SI are meant to keep more production and jobs in California.
