FCC to Vote Oct. 29 on Barring All Chinese Labs From Testing Electronics for U.S. Market

Wednesday, October 7, 2026 · Technology · GSM News

The Federal Communications Commission said Oct. 7 it will vote Oct. 29 on barring all Chinese laboratories from testing and certifying electronics, including smartphones, cameras and computers, for the U.S. market, with the ban taking effect in December 2028 if adopted. Chairman Brendan Carr said 82% of electronics were tested in China in 2025 and fewer than 4% in U.S. labs. The proposal builds on 2025 restrictions on Chinese-government-controlled labs and would streamline approvals for U.S. and allied-country labs. (GSM, from Reuters reporting)
