More Than 1,000 Gravel Bikes Sold at REI Recalled: Decathlon Van Rysel Front Lock Nut Can Loosen

Wednesday, October 7, 2026 · Life · GSM News

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 — Decathlon America has recalled more than 1,000 Van Rysel GRVL AF bicycles because the front lock nut can loosen during use, causing the front wheel to dislodge or loosen over time and posing a crash hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. As of the notice, Decathlon was unaware of any injuries related to the recall.

The recalled models are adult multi-terrain gravel bicycles in sizes extra small through extra large and in graphite black, cream, granite pink and coriander brown. They were sold at REI Co-op stores and on the REI website between March 2025 and August 2026 for between $1,400 and $2,300. Model numbers and SKUs are listed in the CPSC notice, and owners can check the frame number against the list.

Owners should stop riding the affected bikes and follow the CPSC notice to contact Decathlon America for the remedy. Cycling safety groups add a general reminder: quick-release and thru-axle front wheels should get a routine tightness check before long rides, and any noise or wobble from the front wheel is a reason to stop immediately rather than ride on.

Gravel bikes are one of North America's fastest-growing bicycle categories, blending road speed with unpaved-surface capability, and outdoor retailers such as REI are a principal sales channel. Owners completing the recall check can use the occasion for a full fastener inspection: handlebar, seatpost and pedal torque are the three most common loosening points on this class of long-distance bike.
