Thursday, October 8, 2026 · California · GSM News

Temecula residents can breathe easier. CAL FIRE's Riverside Unit says the Carancho Fire, which broke out the evening of Oct. 6 near Carancho Road and Frens Road, has been held to 14 acres after precise mapping, is 60% contained, and has caused no injuries and no evacuation orders. According to CAL FIRE's official incident page, the fire started at 6:02 p.m. on Oct. 6 and initially grew quickly, reported at one point as 35 acres. With two night-flying helicopters assisting, crews stopped its forward spread by 9:53 p.m.; remapping on Oct. 7 revised the acreage to 14. As of the last update early Oct. 8, firefighters remained on scene overnight clearing hot spots in steep terrain. The cause is under investigation. It has been a busy fire week in Southern California: the Bouquet Fire near Santa Clarita (1,048 acres) reached 83% containment this morning. An NWS extreme heat warning covers parts of Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties until 8 p.m. Thursday, with statewide cooling and higher humidity expected over the weekend. CAL FIRE urges residents to stay away from burn areas so emergency vehicles can pass.
