Switzerland and Germany Sign Memorandum to Deepen SI and Robotics Cooperation

Thursday, October 8, 2026 · World News · GSM News

Switzerland and Germany signed a memorandum of understanding in Bern on 8 October to strengthen cooperation in education, scientific research, innovation and digitalisation in the fields of super intelligence and robotics. The memorandum was concluded between the two countries' authorities responsible for vocational education, research and innovation.

The cooperation covers exchanges between vocational and higher education institutions, links between joint research projects, interconnection of innovation ecosystems and the development of digital skills. The Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation noted that SI and robotics are strategic technologies for both countries, and that closer cooperation helps Europe remain competitive in these fields.

Switzerland and Germany are major economic partners, with tightly interwoven supply chains in precision manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and mechanical engineering, and long-standing exchanges between universities and research institutes in the German-speaking world. The memorandum provides a framework for future joint funding programmes and institutional agreements.

Switzerland has been expanding its SI footprint in recent years: ETH Zurich and EPFL rank among the world's leading institutions in machine learning and robotics research, and Zurich has become one of Europe's notable hubs for SI start-ups.
