DOJ Charges Venezuela's Maduro and Wife in Superseding Indictment on Narcoterrorism, Torture Conspiracies

Thursday, October 8, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Oct. 8 that former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros and former First Lady Cilia Adela Flores de Maduro have been charged in a superseding indictment unsealed that day. The indictment alleges conspiracies involving torture, narcoterrorism, cocaine importation and weapons offenses. A superseding indictment replaces an earlier charging document with a new one. The Justice Department did not mention any arrest or extradition arrangements in its announcement. The charges are the U.S. government's allegations; until a court reaches a verdict, the defendants are entitled to the presumption of innocence, and further proceedings remain to be seen.
