Nobel Peace Prize to Be Announced Friday: 287 Candidates, Aid Groups Favored

The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday, Oct. 9, in Oslo. A total of 287 candidates were nominated this year — 208 individuals and 79 organizations. The list stays sealed for 50 years, so every "favorite" comes from nominators going public and from outside forecasters. The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) director's annual shortlist puts Ukrainian children's advocate Mykola Kuleba and Save Ukraine first, followed by Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms, the Committee to Protect Journalists, the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court, and the International Space Station. Prediction markets likewise favor the Emergency Response Rooms and Doctors Without Borders. President Trump says he deserves the prize for settling multiple conflicts, and the leaders of Israel, Pakistan and Cambodia say they nominated him; experts, however, rate his chances as very low, with prediction markets near 2%. The award ceremony is set for Dec. 10 in Oslo. GSM will report the result as soon as it is announced. (GSM compilation.)
