Steelers Get Elliott Back at Practice but Lose WR Pittman for Multiple Weeks

Pittsburgh is a city in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh Steelers got one piece of good news and one blow at practice on Thursday, October 8: safety DeShon Elliott opened his return-to-practice window, while wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. is expected to miss multiple weeks after re-aggravating a foot injury.
Head coach Mike McCarthy announced that the team has started Elliott's 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve. Elliott has missed the first four games with a knee injury stemming from last season, when he hyperextended his knee and suffered a serious hamstring injury that required surgery. He practiced on a limited basis Thursday. The Steelers must activate him to the 53-man roster within 21 days or he will remain on injured reserve for the season; he could return as early as Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, though the staff has stressed caution throughout his recovery.
Pittman, acquired from Indianapolis in a March trade, had been a limited participant Wednesday before his foot injury worsened. His absence thins the top of Pittsburgh's receiver depth chart just as the 2-2 Steelers, third in the AFC North, prepare to host his former team.
