Carlson's First Two Goals as a Bolt Lift Lightning Over Wild 3-2 in Tampa

Thursday, October 8, 2026 · City · GSM News

Tampa is a city in Hillsborough County, Florida. John Carlson scored his first two goals with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Nikita Kucherov posted two assists as Tampa Bay edged the Minnesota Wild 3-2 on Thursday night, October 8, at Benchmark International Arena, completing a sweep of its three-game homestand.

Anthony Cirelli tipped in an Erik Cernak shot 5:26 into the game, and Carlson doubled the lead just 36 seconds later with a wrist shot through a screen. Quinn Hughes cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the second period, but Carlson restored the two-goal cushion at 4:55 with a one-timer on the power play — the Lightning's first power-play goal of the season after an 0-for-14 start. Blake Coleman answered with a power-play goal for Minnesota, but neither team scored in the third.

Carlson, who signed a two-year, $17 million contract on July 1, had a game-high nine shots on goal. Goaltender Dennis Hildeby made 34 saves in his Tampa Bay debut after being acquired from Toronto in July. Jesper Wallstedt stopped 32 shots for the Wild (2-1-1), who failed to earn a point for the first time this season.
