Trump Forms Committee to Probe Fed Governor Lisa Cook; White House Hearing Set for Nov. 5

Friday, October 9, 2026 · White House · GSM News

President Trump has formed a three-person committee of inquiry to investigate allegations that Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook made false statements in mortgage documents, and to report back whether there is 'cause' for her removal, the White House announced on Oct. 9 in a memorandum dated Oct. 7.

The members are National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling — also acting director of the Office of Government Ethics — and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Chair Andrea Lucas. The committee will hold an in-person hearing at the White House on Nov. 5; it will not be public, but a transcript will be published.

In June, the Supreme Court blocked Trump from removing Cook while noting he could try again if she received proper notice and an opportunity to respond. Cook denies wrongdoing and has not been charged with a crime; her attorneys say she welcomes the opportunity to present the facts and clear her name.
