Registered sex offender pleads guilty to Temecula assaults near school and mall

Jacob Brian Paulsen, 31, of Perris pleaded guilty on October 7 in Riverside County Superior Court to lewd acts on a minor, sexual battery, child endangerment, attempted lewd acts on a minor and annoying a minor victim. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, shortly after 5 p.m. on September 19, 2025, deputies responded to a report in the 40000 block of Winchester Road in Temecula, in the immediate vicinity of Chaparral High School, where a girl had been molested. Investigators also found that hours earlier, less than two miles away, Paulsen had made inappropriate physical contact with a woman at a shopping mall in the 20000 block of Ynez Road. No one was injured in either incident, and Paulsen was taken into custody that evening. California Department of Justice records show Paulsen is a registered sex offender with prior convictions, including assault with intent to commit a sexual offense, sexual battery and contacting a minor for a sexual offense; he served three years in state prison and was released in the spring of 2025. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Superior Court Judge John Molloy has scheduled sentencing for December 16 at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta. Both incidents released by the sheriff occurred around a school and a shopping area, and Temecula parents may wish to stay alert during school pickup hours; anyone with information can contact the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
