Southern California Heat Eases: Los Angeles Near 82 Friday, Rain Chance Sunday-Monday

Friday, October 9, 2026 · California · GSM News

Southern California's multi-day heat wave ended on Thursday. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard says the cooling becomes more noticeable Friday: central Los Angeles should reach about 82 degrees, with patchy morning fog and low clouds followed by gradual clearing. Saturday turns mostly cloudy with a high near 75 in Los Angeles, while inland valleys are expected in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Late in the weekend and early next week, moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Rachel and a cold upper-level low from the north will affect the region. Los Angeles has about a 50% chance of showers after 11 a.m. Sunday, with a high near 70. On Columbus Day, showers are likely, with the chance of precipitation around 70% and a high near 69. Tuesday turns sunny with a high near 71. Inland valleys and foothills may also see light to moderate rain Sunday into Monday, with a small thunderstorm chance at times.

The Weather Service also cautions that high tides and southerly swells may bring seawater flooding and beach erosion along the Los Angeles and Ventura coasts this weekend, especially around the Sunday morning high tide. Even as Friday cools down, residents should stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day; a light jacket and rain gear are worth carrying this weekend.
