Carlsbad Commits $5.2M With SANDAG to Advance Village Rail Trench Design

The Carlsbad City Council in San Diego County has unanimously approved an agreement with SANDAG and the North County Transit District to advance the Carlsbad Village rail trench project to 30 percent design and environmental review, reimbursing SANDAG up to $5.22 million over three fiscal years, capped at $1.74 million per year. SANDAG is contributing $20.8 million plus $1 million in federal funding for the remaining costs. The 1.1-mile segment runs from south of Buena Vista Lagoon through Carlsbad Village Station to south of Tamarack Avenue; a long-trench option scored highest in a 2020 alternatives analysis.
