Danny Fire Near Gorman Reaches 96% Containment as All Evacuations Are Lifted

Sunday, October 11, 2026 · California · GSM News

The Danny Fire near the Golden State (5) Freeway south of Gorman in Los Angeles County was 96% contained as of Saturday evening, holding at 150 acres, incident command officials said. Firefighters made good progress during the day, and the fire is now in patrol status with all evacuations lifted. The unified command with the Los Angeles County Fire Department ended Saturday.

The fire broke out around 4:50 p.m. Thursday north of Smokey Bear Road, at one point threatening about 40 structures and briefly forcing a closure of the 5 Freeway in both directions near Smokey Bear Road. Forward progress was stopped Thursday evening, after which crews focused on mopping up hotspots and reinforcing fire lines.

The blaze was fought by U.S. Forest Service firefighters assigned to the Angeles National Forest along with crews from the Cleveland, Lassen, Los Padres, San Bernardino and Shasta-Trinity national forests, plus engine crews and equipment from Nevada, Arizona, Colorado and Idaho. Four helicopters, two air tankers and two super scooper aircraft joined the initial attack.

Incident command said there is no active fire behavior at this time; patrol crews will continue monitoring to prevent flare-ups in hot, dry conditions. The cause remains under investigation. The now-lifted evacuation order had covered the fire footprint and the directly adjacent area, and nearby residents may return.

The Danny Fire is one of several Southern California wildfires this week; the Bouquet Fire near Santa Clarita was 83% contained as of October 8. Rainfall and cooler temperatures from Tropical Storm Rachel are expected to ease this week's extreme heat, though fire officials continue to warn the public to watch for new fires.
