Premier League: Manchester City Beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield to Stay Top

Sunday, October 11, 2026 · World News · GSM News

Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield in the Premier League on 11 October, winning their first match since an independent commission's verdict was announced, and remaining top of the table with a perfect start to the season intact.

The match was played against an extraordinary backdrop: the commission had found 114 of the 115 charges against City proven, relating to the period from 2009/10 to 2017/18 and to falsified contracts that allegedly inflated revenues by more than £900 million. City deny the charges and lodged a full appeal on 1 October; any sanctions will be decided at a separate hearing.

Amid the continuing off-field turmoil, City maintained their momentum on the pitch with a three-goal away win over title rivals Liverpool. Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on 10 October that he had not downplayed the verdict.

The victory strengthens City's position at the top, but the club's future still hinges on the appeal and sanctions process — the largest financial case in Premier League history is expected to run for a considerable time yet.
