Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Foundation Raises Record $541 Million

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota. The University of Minnesota Foundation has raised a record $541 million in private donations during fiscal year 2026, the Minnesota News Network reported on October 10.
More than 87,000 donors contributed to support student scholarships, research, academic programs and other university priorities across its five campuses. The foundation also provided a record $336 million to the university, an increase of nearly 13 percent from the previous year.
The strong fundraising pushed the foundation's endowment from $4 billion to $4.8 billion, giving the university a deeper financial base for its long-term development.
The University of Minnesota is the state's largest public research university, with its Twin Cities campus located in Minneapolis. The record fundraising comes as U.S. universities broadly face pressure on state appropriations and uncertainty around research funding, underscoring continued alumni and community support for the institution.
