Red River Rivalry at Dallas' Cotton Bowl: Oklahoma Stuns No. 1 Texas 27-24 on Walk-Off Field Goal

Dallas is a city in Dallas County, Texas. The 122nd Red River Rivalry was played Saturday, October 10, at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas during the State Fair of Texas, where unranked Oklahoma stunned No. 1 Texas 27-24 on a walk-off field goal in one of college football's biggest upsets of the season.
Tate Sandell's 47-yard field goal sailed through the uprights as time expired. Quarterback John Mateer played a turnover-free game and delivered in the biggest moment: with 13 seconds left from the Texas 48, he ripped a pass to Isaiah Sategna III for a first down to set up the winner. After the final whistle, Mateer planted an OU flag in the end zone and rode the Sooner Schooner wearing the Golden Hat.
“I can't believe it,” Mateer said, flipping horns down toward the crowd. Coach Brent Venables praised him: “He did a great job playing quarterback, taking care of the ball... He was fantastic all day.”
Oklahoma's defense picked off Arch Manning twice. The win was personal for Mateer: last October on this same field, 17 days after thumb surgery, he threw three interceptions — a performance he said he thought about every day since.
Oklahoma improved to 3-2 (1-1 SEC); Texas fell to 4-1 (1-1). In the new US LBM Coaches Poll, Texas dropped to No. 6 and Georgia rose to No. 1. (Sources: The Oklahoman, Sooners Wire)
