Inglewood Mayor Pushes Full Audit of SoFi Stadium Taxes; Council Vote Tuesday

Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. and Councilmember Dionne Faulk plan to introduce a motion at the City Council meeting Tuesday, Oct. 13, to hire an independent auditor to review taxes paid by SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park against what the city says it is actually owed under the law. The audit would cover ticket, parking, sales and property taxes. The motion would also direct the city manager to publish a quarterly "Stadium Revenue Transparency Report" on the city's website, detailing each tax collected, tickets sold or given away, admission tax owed and received, and event-day costs to the city and amounts reimbursed. The audit is estimated to cost no more than $325,000, paid from the city's general fund, according to the city's press release. Background: last month, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge ruled that the development agreement underpinning the $5 billion stadium project had been voided by an unrelated 2018 legal precedent. The city contends the agreement is void; Hollywood Park says it has honored its commitments and called itself a "good partner" to residents. Butts said in a statement the city needs "an independent audit, line by line and ticket by ticket." (Sources: LA Daily News, City of Inglewood press release.)
