(Update) The Bike Fire in Santa Clarita, Los Angeles County, had scorched about 275 acres and was 12% contained as of Sunday evening, Oct. 11, with about 250 county firefighters and 75 U.S. Forest Service personnel battling the blaze.

The brush fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Cambria Estates Lane and Ravenhill Road in eastern Santa Clarita. Initially about five acres, it exceeded 115 acres by 2:15 p.m. with "erratic fire behavior," according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Mandatory evacuation orders covered the Sandsouth, Sultus, Woodland and Nadeu areas. Sand Canyon Road was closed at Lost Canyon Road. College of the Canyons served as an evacuation shelter.

The cause remains unknown. Capt. Aaron Katon said erratic winds from weekend storms were a key driver. The Bike Fire is the third wildfire in the Santa Clarita area in one week. (Sources: L.A. County Fire Department, City News Service)
