No. 12 Utah Pulls Away Late to Beat Kansas 41-24, Stays Perfect

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City is a city in Salt Lake County, Utah. No. 12 Utah stayed perfect on Saturday night, pulling away late to defeat Kansas 41-24 in front of a sold-out crowd at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
The Utes (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) scored on their first two drives to take an early 14-0 lead, capped by a 5-yard rushing touchdown from Wayshawn Parker and a 12-yard touchdown from quarterback Devon Dampier. Kansas (2-3, 0-2) fought back behind quarterback Isaiah Marshall, who completed 19 of 37 passes for a career-high 333 yards and two touchdowns, and closed to within 27-24 late in the third quarter.
Utah answered with a seven-minute drive capped by a 1-yard touchdown run from Johnson, added a goal-line stand, and sealed the game with a 90-yard touchdown run with 7:24 to play — outscoring the Jayhawks 14-0 in the fourth quarter.
The game was moved up earlier in the day due to weather, but that was the only downer for the Utes, who finished with 287 rushing yards, 258 passing yards, and a perfect 5-for-5 in the red zone. Utah took over the No. 1 spot in the Big 12 power rankings with the win, moving ahead of in-state rival BYU.
