Monday, October 12, 2026 · California · GSM News

(Update) Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel made landfall in Baja California Norte, Mexico late Saturday night, sparing San Diego County the worst — but its remnants brought periods of moderate to heavy rain to the county on Sunday, prompting the city to reactivate its emergency shelter program.

The National Weather Service discontinued the Tropical Storm Watch for San Diego County early Sunday morning. A flood watch remained in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday.

City officials reactivated the Inclement Weather Shelter Program at two locations: Father Joe's Villages Joan Kroc Center and Living Water Church of the Nazarene.

The NWS also issued a wind advisory for the San Diego County mountains through 5 a.m. Monday, with gusts up to 60 mph. Overnight rainfall ranged from more than 2 inches on the coast to 3 inches in the mountains. (Sources: Times of San Diego, NWS)
