San Juan Capistrano: Battery Storage Project Application Withdrawn

San Juan Capistrano is a city in Orange County, California. Developer Compass Energy on September 1 withdrew its application to the California Energy Commission for a large battery storage facility proposed near San Juan Capistrano. The project, planned for about 13 acres using lithium-iron-phosphate batteries, drew years of community opposition over wildfire risk and proximity to homes. The developer said it could not find an alternative suitable site near the grid connection and that economic conditions had changed. The withdrawal does not rule out other storage projects in the future.
