Culver City Schedules Three Free United Against Hate Week Events, October 21 and 23

[Update] The City of Culver City issued a cancellation notice on October 23: the "2024 Hate Crimes Report: From Data to Action" session scheduled for the evening of October 23 has been cancelled.
Los Angeles is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The City of Culver City announced three free events during United Against Hate Week, October 18–24, a nationwide initiative against hate, bias and discrimination based on race, faith or religion, gender and other protected characteristics. The events are hosted by the city's Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC). On Wednesday, October 21, at the Senior Center, 4095 Overland Ave. (Rooms B45 and B47), "EHRAC Presents: Personal Stories of Resilience / Stories of Survival" runs 6:00–7:30 p.m., with speakers from different generations and identity backgrounds sharing personal experiences of resilience, hope and belonging; it is followed at the same venue, 7:30–9:00 p.m., by "Right to Be's Emotional Intelligence Workshop," on practicing empathy, care and connection, including understanding and managing one's own emotions and recognizing others' perspectives. On Friday, October 23, 6:00–7:30 p.m. (location to be announced), "2024 Hate Crimes Report: From Data to Action" will discuss the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations' 2024 Hate Crime Report. According to the announcement, the report shows hate crimes reached the second-highest level in more than 40 years of records; anti-Black, anti-Latino, anti-Jewish, anti-Muslim and anti-LGBTQ crimes all increased; and school-related hate crimes and crimes related to the Middle East conflict rose notably. Registration for all three events is through a city form.
The October 23 session will be held in the Garden Room of the Veterans Memorial Building, 4117 Overland Ave.
