Six Flags Temporarily Closes Nine Coasters at Six Parks After Fatal Georgia Accident, Including Magic Mountain's Goliath

Tuesday, October 13, 2026 · States · GSM News

LOS ANGELES — Six Flags has temporarily closed nine large roller coasters at six parks after a fatal accident on the Goliath coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Oct. 12, according to the Associated Press. The closures include Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. A Six Flags spokesperson said attractions similar to the Georgia coaster were closed "out of an abundance of caution"; the company has not announced when they will reopen.

According to The New York Times, the nine closed coasters are: Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America in Illinois; Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California; Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey; Leviathan and Behemoth at Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan, Ontario; Fury 325 and Thunder Striker at Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina; and Orion and Diamondback at Kings Island in Ohio.

The accident happened on the afternoon of Oct. 12 at Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell, outside Atlanta. Cobb County police said a man fell from the coaster and died, and four other guests were injured; detectives with the department's major crimes unit are investigating. Police and Six Flags have not formally identified the ride involved, but local television footage showed stranded passengers being evacuated from Goliath. Police identified the man who died as Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, of Atlanta, and said preliminary findings indicate he was ejected from the ride, struck other patrons and then fell beneath the attraction.

Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia opened in 2006, stands 200 feet (61 meters) tall and reaches a top speed of 70 mph (113 kph), with a ride time of about 3 1/2 minutes. The Six Flags spokesperson said staff members and local authorities responded immediately, the park is cooperating with the investigation, and the company is providing support to guests and staff who were impacted. Lisa Cupid, chairwoman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, said the family of the man who died has been notified.

This report follows GSM's earlier coverage: on Oct. 13, GSM reported that one person died and four were injured in the Goliath accident at Six Flags Over Georgia and that police had opened an investigation (Man Dies After Fall From Goliath Roller Coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia; Four Others Injured).
