Two Suspicious Bags Near Disneyland's East Gate Cleared by Bomb Squad; Police Searching for Man Who Left Them

Tuesday, October 13, 2026 · California · GSM News

The Anaheim Police Department responded to two suspicious bags outside the east entrance of the Disneyland Resort on the evening of Oct. 12. The Esplanade, the plaza between the two parks, was cleared and temporarily closed, and the area reopened later that night after the bags were determined to pose no threat.

According to information released by Anaheim police to local media, at about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 officers were alerted to the bags near a fence at the park's east entrance roundabout, the bus and shuttle drop-off area along Harbor Boulevard. Two satchel-style bags sat on a dolly with wires sticking out, and a nylon bag next to them was duct-taped shut with sharp objects protruding. Park employees had discovered the bags and reported them. Anaheim police blocked off the roundabout while an Orange County Sheriff's Department bomb squad and bomb-sniffing dogs examined the items, and Harbor Boulevard was closed for a time; Anaheim Fire & Rescue received a related call at 11:10 p.m. A Disneyland spokesperson confirmed that guests were cleared from the Esplanade and the area was shut down temporarily. Guests leaving the parks could not exit toward Harbor Boulevard and were routed through the Downtown Disney District instead; the parks themselves were not evacuated.

Examination found that one bag contained marbles, while the nylon bag held miscellaneous items including Disney-branded crowns and other objects with pointed edges. At 11:45 p.m., investigators determined there was no threat, the area reopened, and Disney said the parks would operate normally on Oct. 13. No injuries were reported.

Police said the items appeared to have been intentionally placed to look suspicious. Anaheim police are searching for the man who left the packages, using surveillance video and witness accounts; he has not been identified, no images have been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
