New STEM Charter High School Opens in Research Triangle Park With 150 Ninth-Graders

Tuesday, October 13, 2026 · City · GSM News

Raleigh is a city in Wake County, North Carolina. Last week, Carolina Collegiate High School, a brand-new public charter high school in Research Triangle Park (RTP), held its opening ceremony. The college-preparatory STEM school occupies the converted first floor of an office building at 100 Capitola Drive in RTP, and has enrolled about 150 ninth-grade students in its first class, drawn from Guilford, Chatham, Alamance and other counties around Durham. The school was founded by Joey Webb in partnership with Great Schools North Carolina and Civic Builders, and plans to expand grade by grade into a full high school through 12th grade.

At the ribbon-cutting, student volunteers led guests on tours of classrooms for engineering, data, environment, computer science, world history, languages and electives. The curriculum emphasizes flexibility — one student completed a parts-of-speech quiz app as a computer class project. Webb said turning an idea into a school was not easy: he personally toured at least 53 buildings before finding the current site, and he previously served on the board of another STEM charter school, Research Triangle High School. According to the Triangle Tribune, the first students arrive at the new campus smiling every day, and the school has quickly become a much-watched new option for local parents.
