Escondido is a city in San Diego County, California. The Escondido Fire Department reports that on Oct. 11 at approximately 5:13 p.m., the North Comm Communications Center received a report of a residential structure fire at 1561 Russell Place in Escondido. The first-arriving engine company reported smoke coming from a second-floor window of the two-story, single-family residence. Fire crews initiated an aggressive interior attack and contained the fire within approximately 15 minutes.

The fire was primarily confined to a second-floor bedroom and adjoining hallway. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately two hours conducting overhaul operations, checking the attic and other concealed spaces to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. The residence was occupied at the time, but all occupants safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported. A total of four fire engines, one ladder truck, one rescue ambulance and two chief officers responded; the Escondido Police Department assisted with road closures in the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
