French School Protests Enter Third Week; Clashes Reported in Paris

Le Monde and other outlets reported on October 14 that school protests in France have entered a third week, with nationwide demonstrations on October 13 and 14. Authorities put Tuesday's turnout at 161,500, down from more than 260,000 the previous week. In Paris, demonstrators clashed with riot police, who used tear gas and water cannon and made arrests. Protesters' demands include action on teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms and school infrastructure funding. Climate activist Greta Thunberg joined students at the Paul-Éluard high school in Saint-Denis.
