Two Adults Cited for Buying Alcohol for Minors in Hemet 'Shoulder Tap' Operation

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · California · GSM News

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Hemet Station, working with agents from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), conducted a "Shoulder Tap" operation in the Hemet area on October 5, and two adults were cited for buying alcohol for minors, the Sheriff's Office announced on October 13.

During the operation, minors working under the direct supervision of deputies and ABC agents approached customers outside an alcohol retailer and asked them to purchase alcohol. Two adults bought alcohol for the minors; both were detained and issued citations for furnishing alcohol to a minor, according to the release.

Furnishing alcohol to a minor is a misdemeanor, and a first violation carries a minimum fine of $1,000 and/or 24 hours of community service, the department said. The operation was funded by an ABC grant through the department's Alcohol Policing Partnership program, and the Hemet Station said such operations will continue throughout the Hemet area, with the grant program running through June 30, 2027. Questions about the program can be directed to Corporal Roach at the Hemet Sheriff's Station, (951) 791-3400.
