City of Irvine to Host El Niño Preparedness Town Hall on October 26

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · California · GSM News

The City of Irvine announced on October 13 that it will host an El Niño Preparedness Town Hall on Monday, October 26, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at Irvine City Hall, 1 Civic Center Plaza, with the National Weather Service, the Orange County Fire Authority and city departments presenting on winter storm preparation and response. The event will include a presentation and a question-and-answer session, and will be livestreamed on Zoom and recorded.

According to the city, a guest speaker from the National Weather Service will explain the El Niño outlook and the difference between a seasonal outlook and a forecast for an individual storm. The Orange County Fire Authority, the city's Office of Emergency Management, and the Public Works and Sustainability Department will cover preparation and response for heavy rain, flooding, high winds, downed trees, clogged storm drains and hazardous road conditions.

The announcement also describes how the city monitors conditions and coordinates its response, maintains drainage, street and tree systems, and runs its sandbag program for residents. Non-emergency problems such as downed trees, clogged drains and localized flooding can be reported through the Access Irvine app or by calling 949-724-7600, and residents can sign up for AlertOC emergency notifications, the city said.
