San Bernardino: Councilmember Ortiz's sentencing on eavesdropping conviction set for October 14; defense seeks dismissal

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · California · GSM News

San Bernardino is a city in San Bernardino County, California. San Bernardino City Councilmember Treasure Ortiz, convicted of misdemeanor eavesdropping for secretly recording a conversation with Police Chief Darren Goodman, is scheduled to be sentenced on October 14 and faces up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine. She was acquitted of the charge involving Sgt. Jose Loera.

Her defense argues the state failed to prosecute the remaining charge within the one-year statute of limitations and has moved to dismiss the conviction. The City Council previously voted to censure Ortiz and call for her resignation; she has said she will not step down.
