Santa Monica Fire Department Joins Statewide AwareCA Public Safety Platform

SANTA MONICA — Santa Monica is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The Santa Monica Fire Department announced on October 14 that it has joined AwareCA, California's statewide public safety information platform. According to a city press release, the platform gives residents and visitors direct access to authoritative information from fire departments and other public safety agencies, and Santa Monica is participating alongside fire agencies across the Los Angeles region in a coordinated effort supported by the Los Angeles Area Fire Chiefs Association (LAAFCA).
AwareCA is a free mobile application that provides incident information, wildfire activity, evacuation information, agency updates and other public safety information on a common statewide platform. For Santa Monica residents, it adds a direct connection to information from their own fire department as well as participating agencies across the region and state.
Fire Chief Matt Hallock said in the release that the community trusts the department to provide accurate information when it matters most, and that joining AwareCA gives residents another direct way to receive information from the department while connecting them with agencies across the region, noting that emergencies do not stop at city boundaries.
The city said LAAFCA brings together fire service leadership from 29 departments across the Los Angeles region, helping agencies collaborate on operational, technological and public safety challenges that cross jurisdictional boundaries, within California's mutual aid system in which dozens of cities and fire agencies work together daily.
