Second-Alarm Fire Burns Large Scrap Pile at Fontana Recycling Yard as County Crews Work to Stop Spread

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · California · GSM News

FONTANA — A fire erupted at a recycling facility in Fontana on the morning of October 14. According to ABC7 and Particle News, the fire was reported at about 7:30 a.m. at AIM Recycling Fontana on Slover Avenue, and the San Bernardino County Fire Department sent multiple units, declaring a second alarm.

Aerial footage showed crews on ladders dousing a large burning pile of metal scrap as a thick plume of smoke rose over the area. County fire officials said the burning pile consisted of metal debris. With Santa Ana winds expected to intensify, crews focused on keeping the flames from spreading to a trucking yard south of the facility and to neighboring businesses. Particle News reported winds of about 25 mph driving the blaze and pushing smoke across the area, with officials closing nearby streets and urging drivers to avoid the corridor.

Reports also noted the burning pile could contain pressurized gas cylinders, complicating suppression and raising exposure risks for nearby workers and businesses. No official cause had been released, and county fire officials had not reported injuries; updates are expected from the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

The fire came as Southern California entered the season's first Santa Ana wind event, with Red Flag Warnings and high wind warnings in effect across the region and fire agencies on heightened alert for outdoor fires.
