DOJ Cuts Off Evidence Sharing With Minnesota Investigators Probing Fatal ICE Shootings

Friday, October 16, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

Federal investigators stopped sharing evidence last month with Minnesota's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) in the cases of two fatal shootings by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, hampering the state-level probes, according to CNN. The two people killed were Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

In court filings this week, Minnesota investigators said the Justice Department still has not turned over key evidence, including a statement by one of the officers who shot Pretti, the cellphone of the agent who shot Good, her clothing, the firearms used in the Pretti shooting, and physical evidence from that scene such as projectiles and shell casings. The account comes from a sworn statement by BCA Superintendent Drew Evans.

State investigators are also seeking evidence in the non-fatal shooting of Venezuelan immigrant Julio Sosa-Celis; the ICE officer involved, Christian Castro, faces state and federal charges in that case. Minnesota authorities are litigating separately in federal court for access to the evidence needed to continue their investigations. The Justice Department did not comment on CNN's reporting.
