Follow-Up: Minnesota Officials Say Federal Government Again Stops Sharing Evidence in Two Fatal Shootings by Federal Agents

Friday, October 23, 2026 · States · GSM News

Minneapolis — Minnesota officials said on Thursday, October 22, that the federal government has again stopped sharing evidence with state investigators looking into two fatal shootings involving federal immigration agents, the Minnesota News Network reported on October 23.

The two people killed were Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Minnesota officials said federal authorities had resumed sharing evidence in July but have since halted cooperation. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said the federal government continues to withhold evidence related to both shootings, and she criticized a federal motion to dismiss, saying it appears intended to obstruct the state investigations.

GSM reported on October 16 that federal investigators had stopped sharing evidence in the two cases with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), with state investigators listing key items still not turned over in court filings (see Justice Department cuts off evidence sharing with Minnesota investigators in two fatal ICE shootings). Thursday's announcement is the latest development in the dispute.
