FBI's Operation Summer Heat 2.0 Nets 8,927 Arrests in Four Months, Seizes 687 Kilograms of Fentanyl

Washington — The FBI announced on October 14 that Operation Summer Heat 2.0, its nationwide violent-crime crackdown, ran from June 1 to September 20 with all 56 field offices taking part, producing 8,927 arrests, more than 5,900 of them under violent-crime and gang programs.
Agents seized 5,013 illegally possessed weapons and 687 kilograms of fentanyl, which the bureau said amounts to roughly 52 million lethal doses. The operation also identified or located 1,410 children.
FBI Director Kash Patel said arrests rose 3 percent from the same period last year, while fentanyl seizures increased 63 percent and weapons seizures 120 percent. Summer Heat is the bureau's recurring summer violent-crime initiative; this year's effort was its second, expanded round.
