St. Louis — The U.S. Department of Justice announced in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 15 that Operation Show Me Justice, an enforcement surge lasting about eight weeks, had concluded with 435 arrests, including 412 people taken into custody on outstanding warrants. Authorities seized 166 illegal firearms, 80 kilograms of drugs, six machine-gun conversion devices and more than $1 million in cash. Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter announced the results at a St. Louis news conference alongside U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt.

Launched in August, the operation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and carried out with the U.S. Marshals Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, focusing on gun and drug crime and on clearing outstanding warrants. Thomas C. Albus, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, was among the officials taking part. McCotter told mayors, councils and state officials nationwide that federal agencies are prepared to partner on comparable operations in their communities.

The Justice Department says similar joint federal-local surges have previously been carried out in Washington, D.C., and Memphis, with St. Louis the latest stop.
