L.A. County Opens Applications for Expanded Sidewalk Vending Cart Program With 30 New Raw-to-Cooked Carts

Friday, October 16, 2026 · California · GSM News

Applications opened Friday, October 16, for an expanded Los Angeles County sidewalk vending cart program, the county Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) announced. Thirty additional vendors will have access to new raw-to-cooked food carts, bringing the program's total to 341 carts for permitted vendors across Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles.

The new carts are designed to safely store, handle and cook raw ingredients on site; until now, vendors who cook from raw ingredients could not obtain a health permit because no approved cart existed for them, officials said. Carts are provided at no cost to qualified vendors, and all menus and food operations must be approved by the county Department of Public Health. Vendors awarded other cart models in unincorporated areas will also be screened for grants of up to $5,000 toward permitting and operating costs, while merchandise vendors may receive up to $500.

Applicants must be current sidewalk vendors in unincorporated Los Angeles County who have operated for at least 12 months, are 18 or older, live in the county, are sole owners of their businesses and have a gross household income of $75,000 or less, with one cart per household. Applications remain open while supplies last.
